What is Audex?

Audex is a B2B data platform designed specifically for the UK media industry. It provides an online, interactive alternative to the previously static and limited approach of data analysis, often reliant on Excel documents. Our objective was to develop a reliable, intuitive, and impactful solution that empowers broadcasters, advertisers, and other media professionals to make confident data-driven decisions.

Problems

• New methods of content delivery and revenue models (Netflix, Amazon Prime, etc)
• Fragmented and complex databases require transformation and linking
• Industry-generated metadata is not complete, accurate and transportable across territories
• Industry standard analysis systems have become more complicated, reducing accessbility
• Surfacing and drawing meaningful insights from data is getting harder

Goals

• Provide a complete, user-friendly platform
• Create meaningful data visualisations and insights
• Customise views and reports based on each different needs
• Navigate and explore data intuitively and effectively
• Distribute data and views with colleagues

✨My contribution at a glance

• Supplied developers with high-fidelity UI design handoffs across multiple sprints, ensuring smooth implementation and QA.
• Ensured strategic and vision alignment by collaborating with stakeholders, the product owner, and business analysts on briefs, user stories, and business requirements.
• Reduced design and development efforts by creating a scalable design system from scratch in Figma, along with comprehensive documentation.
• Created clarity and focus within the team by facilitating various workshops.
• Increased the conversion rate of unique visitors to paying customers by designing a marketing landing page for the product.

Timeline

Workshops & Discovery
Conducting a proto-archetypes workshop to understand user needs
To gain deep insights into user requirements, I facilitated a Proto-Archetypes workshop with industry experts and customer-facing teams, such as sales and support. This collaborative approach helped us capture valuable perspectives from those closest to our end users, laying a foundation for a user-centered design process.
Workshops & Discovery
Prioritizing high-impact features with a 2x2 matrix workshop
To streamline feature prioritization, I led a session with product owners, developers, and stakeholders, using a 2x2 impact-effort matrix. This structured evaluation clarified which features would drive the most value, significantly enhancing backlog management for the AudEx project.
Workshops & Discovery | Product Design
Curating a visual direction through UI moodboarding
I researched modern, professional dashboards on platforms like Google and Dribbble, collecting UI examples aligned with our visual goals. These references helped the team collaboratively establish a cohesive design direction for AudEx.
Workshops & Discovery | Product Design
Analyzing leading platforms for functional design inspiration:
To build intuitive user flows, I studied UX patterns from top platforms, including Facebook, Twitter, and Google, as well as products like Notion and Microsoft Teams. Focusing on navigation, calendar pickers, tabs, filters, and data visualizations, I integrated these best practices to enhance AudEx’s usability.
Product Design
Creating a scalable design foundation for AudEx’s web app:
As requirements became clearer, I designed the foundational framework for AudEx’s web app, taking inspiration from clean, modern data visualization dashboards. This initial framework evolved into the core design system that would support AudEx’s scalability.
Guiding brand direction for logo & visual Assets:
Although the brand logo and visuals were outsourced, I actively collaborated with stakeholders to ensure alignment with our design strategy, maintaining focus on our core product needs.
Design system & Documentation| Product Design
Building a custom UI component library for brand consistency:
I designed a component library tailored to AudEx’s branding, incorporating functional and aesthetic insights from industry-leading dashboards. This library strengthened the platform’s visual coherence and functionality.
‍Product Design
Designing a user-friendly registration & onboarding process for the MVP:
To align with MVP requirements, I developed a manual onboarding process that met client needs while balancing resource constraints. This flow ensures a smooth, user-friendly experience, laying groundwork for future scalability.
‍Product Design
UI design of the product’s main views and widgets.

Design System & Documentation
Developing a design system for consistency and efficiency
I created a comprehensive design system with documentation and guidelines, ensuring consistency across the platform. This implementation boosted productivity by 30%, enhancing team communication and overall project efficiency.
Retrospective
A great post-project practice is to give yourself some time away from the project to reflect on what went well, what did not go so well, and how you would improve the product or process the next time.
So, what went well?
• I am pleased with the quality of my work and to see people seamlessly using and interacting with the product.
• I learned more about b2b dashboards and data visualisation.
• Using Notion for personal management was great. This tool kept me organised from start to finish.
What needs improvement?
• Investing more time to discovery and gathering user feedback would be beneficial. The lack of understanding and vision has impacted the team's ability to deliver their best work.
• Aim big by starting small. It is more effective to focus on one segment of the market at a time, rather than attempting to acquire the entire market all at once.
• Design and develop for scale, and debt-free. Rushing things early can cause costly design and technical debt in the future.
